Just how good is Chad Johnson? I've heard scouts qouted as saying he's good enough to be the first pick of the draft and top 100 lists on the internet not even having him listed.

i heard he can basically go anywhere from mid first round 2 2nd round. but he really reminds me of charles johnson. so im not super high on him.

1st pick my a$$, Johnson will go in the first round only if he has good combien numbers and passes his physical, but hes kinda raw, and in my opinion just not that talented.

Johnson goes from 3rd rounder at the end of the year, to a mid 1st after one week of practices, and is now the #1 player in the draft.

By the end of the combine, he's gonna be a hall of famer.

I believe that if Chad Johnson goes any higher than the middle of the second round than it is a wasted pick. He hasn't proven enough to be a 1st rounder, he has bust written all over him.

Keep in mind that TSN was the one who quoted an alleged "scout" as saying Johnson could be the top pick overall. I wonder if the scouts they talked to were associated with the Bengals...

I like him. I know for a fact he'll be picked in the first round. He WILL NOT get buy us at 31, and should go much earlier.

I think he's behind Terrell and Robinson. Speed, size, can catch. I think he'll be a steal for someone.

BB, I actually just went to TSN and saw that. They also have a scout who says he'd take Chad over Keyshawn ... you have got to be kidding me. I have Johnson as a 2nd rounder, so him slipping into the 1st is not out of the realm of possibility to me. But, these people having him in the top half of the 1st, and claiming he could go #1, and claiming he's better than Keyshawn are ridiculous.

I am with RD on this one. Johnson reminds me so much of M. Ricks a few years ago. Not much at all if anything said about him during the season then he did well at the Senior Games and look where he is now...has been cut and not sure if he was active after being picked up by KC. Not sure how some people think he is a top tier WR when he didn't even dominate teams like Eastern Washington and New Mexico (he was a non-factor in those games he should have been able to show his stuff). Look at his stats...he may go high but I am not sold on him...

E. Washington - 1 catch for 4 yards
New Mexico - 1 catch for 9 yards
San Diego St - 4 catches for 57 yards
USC - 2 catches for 52 yards
Washington - 2 for 116 yards
Stanford - 1 for 97 yards
UCLA - 8 catches for 108 yards
Washington St - 2 for 29 yards
Cal - 4 catches for 90 yards
Arizona - 7 catches for 109 yards
Oregon - 1 catch for 44 yards
Notre Dame - 4 for 93

I see him going no later than mid 2nd round and will very possibly make up to mid 1st round. He is definitely in top 5 WRs. The guy has great hands, good size and speed and runs good routes. What everyone is not looking at is that there was another very good receiver on the team.

I just think it's funny that TSN will actually quote a scout as saying he could be the #1 pick and then turn around and rank him #78 on their top 100 list.

That puts him behind:Terrel, Robinson, Moss, Chambers, Rambo, Gardner, Morgan, Mitchell, Wayne, and Germany...and just ahead of Bobby Newcombe. Seems like a little discrepancy to me.

Put me on his bandwagon. That list of games with catches and yardage shows that he is a big play threat. I have him as a top-ten talent, and the 2d receiver in the draft.

Ok lets look at this another way...his stats are above so lets look at how good the opposing teams pass defense's were...

E. Washington - ranked 104th in Division 1-AA
New Mexico - ranked 25th in pass D
San Diego St - ranked 68th in pass D
USC - ranked 77th in pass D
Washington - ranked 41st in pass D
Stanford - ranked 58th in pass D
UCLA - ranked 64th in pass D
Washington St - ranked 71st in pass D
Cal - ranked 87th in pass D
Arizona - ranked 32nd in pass D
Oregon - ranked 17th in pass D
Notre Dame - ranked 64th in pass D

So look at his stats against those teams and his stats aren't that impressive in my opinion. Look especially at the stat for Eastern Washington...1 catch for 4 yards against the 104th ranked pass D in Division 1-AA!! That is horrible...plain and simple.
To me his only impressive game was against Arizona who atleast ranked in the top 35 in pass D. He may be a big play guy but can he do it against the top CB's in my question. Just like in the Senior Bowl he ranked up yardage on some guys however when Smoot got on him...he did nothing basically.

That's a little bit of an overanalysis IMO. For one thing did it occur to you since he was new on Oregon State that he didn't perform against E. Washington because it was his first game on a new team? He may not have even gotten in the game all that much.

Most of his big games were against pretty good Pac-10 teams and his team did damned well this year unexpectedly. He also had several long TD's which is a good indicator for his size and ability.

Santana Moss had his biggest games this year against teams like Temple and had very similar receiving numbers to Johnson.

You could probably do a similar thing with Rod Gardner.

And if you look at Terrell , he had a ton of catches but didn't put up big per catch numbers.

I don't rate him with those guys personally because I think he's a little overrated by some. But I also think he's greatly underrated by many.

#1 overall is crazy. I could see him going in the bottom third of the first round, but I think 2nd round is more Johnson's ground.

Also, RD, it wasn't just the Senior Bowl week. He had a great Fiesta Bowl vs ND, including a long TD reception, the missed "fumble" nonwithstanding.

Oregon State was pounding those first 2 opponents into submission with the running gane. They probably threw about 10 passes per game at that point.

As the opposition got tougher and the QB and coaches grew more familiar with his abilities, Johnson became more and more productive.

freak ... I disagree ... Johnson had what, 2 catches that game? If this guy is as good as people are making him out to be, he better perform better than that.
Yes, he is a deep threat/playmaker ... he is not in the class of all around wr's of Gardner, Terrell, Robinson, Mitchell, Wayne, or Morgan. And as a playmaker/deep threat, Santana Moss is much more of a threat. I think he can make a solid#2, great #3 guy, but he is not a 'premium' prospect IMO.
